LARA

Lund Aerospace and Rocketry Association (LARA) is an association which was founded in 2019 with the purpose of increasing the interest for rocket technology at LTH. We do this by having regular meetings where we design and produce our own rockets. We create everything from our own nose cones and propulsion systems, to our own software. Anyone that is interested in space and rocket engineering is welcome to become a member. You don’t need any prior knowledge – we are here to learn together!

Being a member in LARA

Membership in LARA is naturally free and it comes with no responsibility – only possibilities! You engage as much as you want to. As an active member you can join our different teams where you take part in a project in different ways. Our current teams are Structures, Propulsion, Avionics, Safety, and Marketing & Outreach – you don’t need to be an engineer, a rocket project needs a wide variety of skills. More information about our different teams can be found below.

If you don’t have time to join a team, you’re still welcome as a member! By signing up, you help support us in our activities and you’ll get information about what we’re doing. Perfect for anyone that is interested or like what we’re doing, but that doesn’t have the time to join a team!

In addition to designing rockets, we do a lot of other fun things. We try to organize lectures and social events as well. As a member you’re invited to join any of our activities. You’ll also become a part of our mother federation Space Students Sweden and able to sign up for their events.

Want to join help develop LARA strategically? You can apply to join the board. We do not demand any prior experience. The board is elected during our annual meeting. In 2026, it will be held during the autumn term. Information about signing up for the board will be sent out on our social media and in our slack channel.

Project FENIX

LARA currently has a rocket project called FENIX.

This project is created for the purpose of restarting activities within LARA. Project FENIX is a project for designing, building, testing and launching a model rocket. The goals of the project are:

  • Recruiting members by showing that we are active
  • Building technical competence within the organization
  • Templates and structure for future projects

The project lead for FENIX is Rebecka Axelsson.

Teams

LARA currently has five teams working on a rocket project: Structures, Propulsion, Avionics, Safety, and Marketing & Outreach. Members can choose to join a team based on their interest. Some people are in multiple teams, while some are only in one. Either works great! Each team is lead by a Team Leader.

Responsible for designing and manufacturing the rocket shell, i.e. body, nose cone, fins, etc. using CAD and testing with physical models and simulations.

Team Lead – Structures: Hannes Wallerå

Responsible for designing the rocket motor, both propellants as well as nozzle and motor design.

Team Lead – Propulsion: Oscar Strickland

Creating the electrical system for avionics, i.e. the control and communications systems within the rocket. This team is currently full and will not be taking any new members for the time being.

Team Lead – Electronics & Software: Manuel L. Rodríguez

Researching laws and regulations concerning rocketry and the projects, applies for certifications, creates and implements guidelines, assisting in risk assessments and risk mitigation. Makes metrological assessments for launches.

Team Lead – Safety: Evyn Bohlin Staver

Marketing LARA and the project. Creating posters, managing social media.

Team Lead – Marketing & Outreach: Martyna Zvirblyte
